Gooseberry Falls is one of the MUST STOP places on the North Shore! It is a great waterfall for getting some wonderful pictures and for getting close to the falls. It can be incredibly busy so expect pictures with photo bombers. Signs indicate it's unsafe to swim, it probably is but most people go in the water anyways. If water levels are high I wouldn't go in, but visiting late in the summer when the water flow is lower makes for more fun in the water.
Gooseberry Falls is the ultimate quick nature walk, rewarding a short drive from the relatively urban setting of Duluth (~40 mins), and some of the shortest and easiest hikes of all time with an incredible scenic experience- a multi-tiered waterfall cascading over giant boulders that at most times of the year you can climb all about on. And even the more hearty trek inclined can venture a bit deeper in and find a few more beautiful bits of natural eye candy should they so choose. It can be a bit crowded though for many of these same reasons.
